Darter Tube Fly Orientation

Tube Fishing - Balancing The Tubes

By changing the balance of conehead and hook is is possible to swap orientation of the fly. This allows Darter Imitations, swimmer / baitfish tube fly imitation  or surface wake tube flies also know as riffle hitch tube flies.

Darter Tube Fly Orientation / Skulpin Imitation

Skulpins or bullheads are small bait fish that dart about the bottom of the water.  Trout, especially large brownies love these. By adding a heavier conehead than hook you can force the tube so that it rides down head first in the water, much the same as a skulpin. Simply lifting the rod tip and dropping causes the fly to lift and dart in much the same manner as a skulpin.

For Pike, Muskie and Bass this technique works well, the lift and drop of the tube fly looks like a fish dying in mid water and can trigger particularly aggressive takes.

Our Epoxy minnow tube flies and zonker tube flies can be used highly effectively with this technique. Check out the pre-tied tube flies available for purchase.
