Tube Fly History

Tube fly fishing has been in existance for many years, the American Indians are reputed to have "used hollowed bird bones lures which emmitted a stream of bubbles to catch fish".

Alexander Wanless reported the first use of tubes in 1932 in the Angler and the Thread. He used tubes after loss of an unacceptable number of fly hooked salmon “The lure…. Has a hole through the centre of it so that it slips up the line when the fish is being played. That is to prevent the hook being levered from the mouth by the body of the fly”.

Not much has changed over the years s the tube techology, we have moved from copper and brass tubes to using modern materials like silicone tubing. We have tube system manufacturers who recommend we burr the end of tubes to hold in their cones with a cigarette lighter, how archaic. Tubeology is a brand new design of tube fly that has been patented world-wide due to its unique capabilities.

Tubeology has radically changed the capabilities for the modern tube fly angler, regardless of target species. The fly fisherman previously had to take every weight and size tube fly they needed, with the advent of tubeology all of that has changed. Interchangeable coneheads enable changing of weights and addition of hot spot colours to a tube fly, even at the waters edge. One Tubeology fly is the equivalent of over 54 standard tube flies by any other tube fly supplier, think of the cost and fishing advantages that Tubeology offers.
